Events and Fundraising 2010

Fundraising Bike Ride - Sunday 25th July 2010
8 intrepid young people will be riding from the Ugandan Embassy in London back to Queen Elizabeth Country Park nr Petersfield.
They are doing this to raise funds for a very exciting element of the Twinning Project, The Young Persons Exchange. The young people involved, who all attend South Downs College ,will be using the money raised to support their trip to Uganda later this year and to help bring some young Ugandans back to England in 2011. During thier visit to Ugandan they will act as ambassadors for the Twinning Project, meeting with people, exchanging ideas on how young people from Ugandan and England can get involved theTwinning Project and conservation and also they will also help to launch the competition that will decide which young Ugandans will win the prize of a visit to England.
If you wish to find out more or perhaps wish to sponsor one of the riders please contact the Twinning Project.

Barn Dance for Uganda 25th September 2010
After the success of last year's Barn Dance we will be repeating this event in 2010. We have been promised the same band as last year, the 'Fourmarks Folk Group' so we can promise you a fantastic evening of music, dance and food.
Details will be posted here in February so keep checking this website and book your tickets early as the tickets are bound to sell fast.

Art for Africa - 'PAINT FOR POUNDS'  Saturday 25th September 2010
After the very successful Art for Africa - 'Have a go day' The Organisers are now bringing you the 'Paint for Pounds' day.
The idea is that a wildlife artist is going to paint an African themed painting especially for the event. We will then get a poster made up, and it will be divided into 32 A4 size pieces for people to paint and be sponsored in doing so.
The proceeds goes to  the Twinning Project and also a Project in Ghana.
The final giant painting will be put on display at Queen Elizabeth Country Park, and perhaps eventually in Uganda.
There are still a few spaces left so if you want to contribute to this fantastic work of art please contact valstrutt@hotmail.co.uk

This was a great evening of fun and fundraising. Over 50 people took part and managed to raise over £400 for the Project.
The Project would like to thank all those who turned up on what was a wet evening and we would especially like to thank the Broad Oak Social Club for their support and help in making this such a successful event.
(we hope to post some pictures here very soon)

'The Park to Park Challenge' - Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th June 2010
'An 80 mile Relay Hike along the South Downs Way'

Every year the Twinning Project runs a challenge to raise funds to improve school facilities and educational materials for children in Uganda. This Year’s challenge consisted of a non-stop sponsored relay trek along the

South Downs Way.

The Trek started at the Beachy Head Pub, near Eastbourne on Saturday 19th June  and terminated in the Queen Elizabeth Country Park in the afternoon on Sunday 20th. A distance of about 88 miles was covered by a team of 12 intrepid walkers who completed the 80 mile walk in about 30 hours. The trekers were joined by other walkers who undertook the last 6 mile section of the walk, which made for a grand finale.

The Team managed to raise about £1000 for Projects in Uganda

The Queen Elizabeth Parks Twinning Project is grateful for the support of Hampshire Transport Management and the Broad Oak Social Club.

Have a Go At Art -  'For Africa' Saturday 12th June 2010 -
St Wilfreds Church Hall, Padnell Road, Cowplain.
This event raised about £250 for the Project and also inspired all those who took part. The Project is very grateful to all who got involved, but particularly Val Strutt for all her hard work and support.

The Great Queen Elizabeth Country Park Truck Pull
10am Sunday 19th July 2009
Some of the staff based at Queen Elizabeth Country Park and the surrounding area took part in a sponsored truck pull around the Park.
Rangers supported by Friends and Volunteers to pulled a Ford Ranger Pick weighing 2480kg around a 3.62 mile route through Queen Elizabeth Forest.
Despite the steep hills the team managed to complete the task in good time and raised almost £500.
If you are impressed by the amazing feat, you can still donate. Just contact the Project at the enquiries@queenelizabethparks.org email address.

The Project would like to thank all those who took part (see Project Supporters page for the full list) especially Chris Duke, whose crazy this was and who did most of the organising.
